The John Hancock Elite Athlete Program

Bringing the best to Boston since 1986

The John Hancock Elite Athlete Program

The John Hancock Elite Athlete Team is unique in the industry of road racing. The Company directly recruits, sponsors and hosts the Elite Athlete Team for the Boston Marathon. Since 1986, the Company has invited over 700 elite athletes from 47 countries to compete on Patriots' Day.

Program Highlights

Since inception, the program has produced 31 male and 31 female Boston Marathon champions from 11 different countries.

John Hancock has awarded nearly $19 million in prize and bonus money during its sponsorship to the top Open, Masters and Push Rim finishers.

Many of the elite athletes create extra special experiences for fans by participating in community programs in advance of the Marathon and during race week.

During race week, MVP employee volunteers set up an Elite Athlete Village for the athletes. This unique environment is similar to the Olympic Village experience and provides the elites with an opportunity to share meals and become acquainted with each other during their stay in Boston.
